I enjoyed 5 years at Dixie playing horn from '84 to '89 and learned lots about music, and especially about leadership. I am grateful to my high school band director, Steve Warner, for insisting that I attend! One of my fondest memories was when Claude T. Smith was conducting and he was adamant that we not tap our toes, because we should be watching him and using HIS tempo! I have been teaching music for 15+ years and love each and every memory from DBC!

I had just finished the 9th grade when I first attended Dixie in 1969. Auditions were all sightreading! I sat 2nd Chair to Jim Deneke who was 1st Chair Arkansas All-State (horn). It was that summer that I met Mr. Don Minx. I became hooked on music and later became a music major at ASU where I studied horn under Mr. Minx. Dixie has been part of my life for 37 years!

Always loved attending Dixie Band Camp (at that time in Jonesboro). Attended Band Camp from 1974-77. Thanks to everyone that has been able to keep this part of life for young band members for 75 years.

I just wanted to stop in and tell all of you how great DBC was when I used to attend. Some of my best friends that I still have today came from summers at camp. Ya'll do such a great thing for the kids. And I hope that my child will one day want to go to DBC. I attended my last year of DBC after I graduated in 2004. I played saxaphone. I was also a captain my last year.

I believe the guest conductor for '97 was Mallory Thompson and the guest conductor for '98 was Jack Stamp. I have my '98 annuals at home, so I can check for the Mr. and Ms. Dixies for those years.
